My brother bought one of these thinking it was just a one cup regular coffee maker. Gave it to me. Saved me a few bucks, was considering getting one at work(Macy's). No idea if it's a good one or not.
It is not recommended to use regular coffee if you want an espresso flavor. What should be considered is the type of grind as cypherf0x stated above. If the grind is too fine you will get grinds in your espresso. I tried a turkish grind once and that was a big mistake! I use espresso grind from the store and it gives me no problems.
One correction to your video. The coffee you use in the pots should be a fine drip grind but not quite as fine as espresso. You're not just limited to espresso specific blends. A good benchmark is to order some Lavazza Crema E Gusto which is ground and blended specifically for stovetop units
I received an espresso maker for my birthday and no instructions, so thank you so much for taking the time to produce this video. As a fellow coffee lover, I appreciate it :)
@Bellvista2@Bellvista2 I would not recommend the one I'm using in the video, I think it was bella casa (or something like that). It was given to me and was not very sturdy. However, I do recommend another brand I use - Alessi - which is Italian, and you can read my review on their stove top espresso maker on my website. There are lots of good brands out there, check out my review and I list a few.
Sounds like you got a good deal! :) Hopefully it's a good sturdy one - quality makes a difference but you should be fine. Enjoy your espresso!

ReplyDeleteI put it on high to make sure the water boils in the lower chamber.
ReplyDeleteShould the coffee pot be put on high, medium or low temperature?
