This is a useful solution, but your just wasting power .... ie your using a lump of heat sink to get round a weak control system philosophy ...... insulate the back of the thermostat, so less heat escapes and the heater element is turned of earlier ..... or is this a compromise to get round the single boiler compromise ? Run it hot to get steam & then have to shed heat not to fry the coffee ?
A smart simple gadget! I'd like to get one if I was sure it would fit my pre-1998 Europiccola. If I would have to file away at it, I would probably ruin the thing. An alternative could be a massive puck of copper, fitting snugly into my portafilter. Or maybe a heat sink like this plus cooling fins that could endlessly cool the head?

ReplyDeletePUT A BATTERY POWERED FAN ON IT..Dave Australia
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing with my spare portfilter. Of course at $150 for a PF, it's nice to have a cheaper alternative.
