Vintage OMRE Quick Mill Espresso Machine--Home Lever Killer?
They say that the introduction of the pump espresso machine for the home was the cause of the decline in the market for home lever espresso machines. Ease of use, simplicity of design.....Here, Orphan Espresso tests out an early Quick Mill Automatica to see if this thesis is valid.

Quick Mill 0650 Vintage Espresso Machine
My little favourite, the Super Quick 0650, one of the first vibration pump driven household espresso machines. The Gaggia Baby came in 1979, this Quick Mill is from 1976. The machine is on temperature in 2 minutes. No kidding, you don't have to pre-heat this baby for 30-something minutes. Featuring a 58mm portafilter made of stainless steel. The water heating unit is a brass lined aluminium thermoblock weighting 2kgs. The original water container is made of thick glass. The only plastic parts are the drip tray, the operating turn knob and the portafilter handle. The QM 0650 is making an exeptional espresso, nearly as good as a lever machine. Beans used for the shot: ZiCaffé Cinquentenario.

Quick Look: Saeco Exprelia Espresso Machine
The design of the Phillips Saeco Exprelia is modeled on extensive interviews with Italian baristas who shared the essential secrets to perfect espresso: At least 7 grams of high quality coffee beans. Accurate grinding; not too coarse, to permit best moistening, nut not too fine, and with a grinder that doesn't overheat the grind. Consistent pressing of the ground coffee, to enable careful extraction at 15 bars pressure of all the aromas with the perfect brewing flow. And at the finish, a smooth hazelnut-brown créma, to protect the aromas and let them burst forth at first sip. Buy it here: www.wholelattelove.com
